Privacy Policy
Effective: October 8, 2026
The short version: HuntAO collects the minimum needed to run your account and sync your waypoints — your email, your saved spots, and reports you choose to send us. We run no analytics and no ad trackers. Map tiles you download for offline use stay on your device. We never sell your data.
1. Information we collect
Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address and any name you provide. Your password is stored only as a salted cryptographic hash — we cannot see your password.
Your saved content. If you sign in, we sync the hunting data you create so it follows you across devices: waypoints (including their map coordinates), tracks, and profile fields you fill in (such as name, phone, vehicle, emergency contact, and notes). This data is stored on our servers and is visible only to your account.
Liability acknowledgment. We record that you accepted the entry acknowledgment and when, since safe and lawful use of the app depends on it.
Problem reports. If you use Report Problem, we receive your message, the page you were on, your browser’s user-agent string, and any contact email you choose to include.
Operational records. Like any web service, our host automatically logs basic request data (such as IP address and timestamps) for security and reliability. We also rate-limit certain endpoints to prevent abuse.
2. Information that stays on your device
Offline map tiles you download, cached map data, and app preferences are stored locally in your browser or on your device — not on our servers. Clearing your browser data removes them.
3. Location information
HuntAO can use your device’s location (only with your permission, e.g. “my location” or live tracking) to show where you are on the map. Your live position is processed on your device and is not transmitted to our servers. Map coordinates are sent to third-party services as needed to load map tiles and weather for the area you are viewing (see below). Waypoint and track coordinates you save are synced to your account as described above.
4. Third-party services
HuntAO relies on third-party providers to function. When you use the app, your browser or our server communicates with them as needed, subject to their own privacy policies:
| Provider | What it’s used for |
|---|---|
| iSportsman feeds | Training-area open/closed status |
| ESRI | Satellite imagery, topo, hillshade basemaps |
| OpenStreetMap / Nominatim | Street map, place search and labels |
| USGS / OpenTopoMap | Topographic basemaps |
| Open-Meteo | Weather data for the viewed area |
| BigDataCloud | Reverse geocoding (place names) |
| Render | App hosting and infrastructure |
5. What we don’t do
- No analytics, no ad trackers. We do not run Google Analytics or any advertising or cross-site tracking scripts.
- We never sell your personal data.
- No marketing email. We email you only for account reasons you trigger: email verification, password resets, and replies to reports you submit.
6. How we protect your information
Passwords are hashed with scrypt and a unique salt per user; authentication tokens are stored hashed; access to server data is restricted. Even so, no system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Use a unique password for your HuntAO account.
7. Your choices and rights
- Access and correction: sign in to view and edit your profile, waypoints, and tracks.
- Deletion: to delete your account and synced data, contact us (see below) from the email address on the account and we will remove it.
- Location permission: you can deny or revoke location access in your browser or device settings; the map still works, but location features won’t.
- Offline data: delete downloaded map areas from within the app or clear your browser data.
8. Children
HuntAO is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. Account holders should be old enough to hunt lawfully in their jurisdiction.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves; material changes will be noted by updating the effective date above. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
10. Contact
Privacy questions or data requests: send us a message below, or use the Report Problem tool in the app.
